Frequently Asked Questions:
WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKEUP?
Permanent makeup, also known as “micropigmentation," is a non-surgical process by which pigment is implanted into the dermis of the skin. Tiny droplets of custom-blended color are skillfully deposited into the dermal layer of the skin to simulate or enhance the appearance of eyebrow hair, eyelashes, eyeliner, lip liner, lip color, or to camouflage skin imperfections such as scars.
HOW LONG DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST?
Professional permanent makeup artists use iron oxide-based pigments which are softer in color and tend to fade more rapidly in the skin than traditional carbon-based body art tattoo inks. Therefore, fading of the implanted pigment, over time, is possible. Some clients find that they need to have their permanent makeup touched up after a year or so, while others may not need their permanent makeup touched up for many years. Lighter colors tend to fade more rapidly than darker colors. Other factors that can contribute to fading include, age, lifestyle, skincare products, sun exposure, and the use of sunscreen.
DOES IT HURT TO HAVE PERMANENT MAKEUP APPLIED?
At Sydney of Beverly Hills, we use several of the industry's most popular numbing creams and gels to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Many people report that they feel nothing more than slight pressure and/or the vibration of the micropigmentation pen.
WILL I HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK?
No. Permanent makeup does not require down-time after having a procedure done. You may return to work the same day if you wish. The only aspect to keep in mind is that permanent makeup will look darker and more intense for the first 5-7 days until the skin has healed. With lip procedures, there might also be some mild-to-moderate swelling for a day or two.
IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL I NEED TO DO AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
All you will need to do is keep the area clean and apply the prescribed after-care cream for a few days. With lip procedures, you will also need to apply a cold-pack intermittently for the first day or so.
HOW CAN I MAINTAIN THE OPTIMAL APPEARANCE OF MY PERMANENT MAKEUP?
You can extend the life of your permanent makeup by limiting your sun exposure, using sunscreen, and by not using Retin-A (or other retinol product) on the areas where you have had permanent makeup applied. It is also recommended that you schedule annual “touch up” visits to keep your permanent makeup looking its best.
